Portraits from Winter

Two quick portraits from our winter walks this week. Each day, she feels a little bit better. child-portrait-photographer windsor-photographer

Child Portraits – 9 years old

photographer-marlow-henleySome of you may recognise these beautiful blue eyes from previous years. It’s hard to believe Miss S is already 9. This time around, her mother was hoping for some portraits and some modelling head shots. This is what we did….

Male Portraits and Modelling Headshots

modelling-headshots-photographerJust this morning, it struck me how lucky I am to be a portrait photographer.

Not because I get…for a small part of my day…to walk around with my camera. But because I get to be close to people and their dreams.

I’m there in those first days of a baby’s life. I’ve been present when a child first sits on its own. I see couples and families together in their love for each other…in so many different stages and ages of life.

This month, I’ve also been lucky to create portraits for people who hope to become models.  This doesn’t change how I look to capture a portrait, it only changes the parameter (i.e.…headshot, full body, etc..)

And so…modelling session number 1…best of luck to you C. You’ll be awesome!

Portraits at 9 Months…

marlow-family-photographerOften I’m asked, when should I photograph my child during his or her first year? Yes there are obvious milestones: 4 month (ish) portraits will capture expression. 7 month (ish) portraits will show expression and seated portraits. And the 13 month (ish…depending on the child) portraits will show all of the above with first steps.

But really, my answer is…anytime. SO much happens in that first year. And children change and change again from week to week and month to month. How nice to capture as much as possible.

And so…here is the gorgeous and engaging S…with all of her expressions.

Summertime Portraits – Last day of school

ascot-portrait-photographerToday. The last day of reception (kindergarden). Every Mama says this…but how did we get here…so fast? In front of me, I have a little girl growing up. Reading, writing, learning to spell. Adding numbers and counting by 10′s or backwards.

I love that the word VERY is really spelled VERE.  I shall leave for her to learn this next year.  And this morning…TALL was spelled TOL. That’s OK in my book. I treasure the little moments clinging to childhood and innocence.  Because it all goes so very quickly.

This was a year of two different schools (before we found the right one for her), of field trip to farms, of her very first choir performance with a mix of bigger children from other schools. This year we were fascinated with Frozen and Beatrix Potter and drawing flowers and growing sunflowers from seed. This year we gained a pair of STYLING pink glasses.

And so we start our summer today. We both need a rest. But I want to remember today. How beautiful it is.

Family Portraits in Windsor

Windsor-Sunningdale-Child-PhotographerAs I look out the window now, the skies are grey, the trees are bare and the fields have that special winter-green colour. And…wow! I realise it has been nearly a month since my last post. As is usual, the run up to Christmas is especially busy in the studio. But with some wonderful sessions…I enjoyed it all.

Here is one I loved. A gorgeous frosty morning. Lots of autumn colour. A beautiful family with a little girl with curls, shining eyes and buckets of personality. It was a pleasure to spend the morning with them!

Food on Friday: Pumpkin Cranberry Muffins

You may have noticed, it’s been a few Friday’s since I’ve shared something from our kitchen. I’ve been wonderfully (and crazily) busy with lots of photo shoots. I can’t wait to share those with you…but now, it is time for a snack.

pumpkin-cranberry-muffins

Next week is American Thanksgiving and these muffins fit this holiday perfectly. They are so healthy, I would eat them for breakfast. Or they are perfect for snack.

PUMPKIN CRANBERRY MUFFINS

Paleo, very low sugar, gluten & wheat free, dairy free. Yummy and moist too. :)

makes 12

2/3 cup mashed pumpkin (or butternut squash)

1/4 cup grated carrot (I used the carrot remains from my morning juice)

1 banana

6 eggs

2 teaspoons maple syrup

2 tablespoons of chia gel (chia seeds soaked in water)

1/2 cup melted coconut oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup + 2 teaspoons coconut flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon ginger

1/4 teaspoon allspice

1 cup cranberries (fresh or frozen) (and perhaps extra for sprinkling on top)

Blend all the wet ingredients (except for the cranberries) together in your mixer. Whisk all the dry ingredients together to break up any lumps. Mix the wet and the dry ingredients together. Add the cranberries.  Spoon into a muffin tin lined muffin papers. Bake at 170 C / 350 F for 30-35 minutes.

Today was the November fayre at Phoebe’s school. I made these and took one in for her. Kids were everywhere eating chocolate Santas and licking huge colourful lollipops. Phoebe never glanced their way. In fact, I had to stop her from eating the paper casing!

If you try these, let me know what you think.

Beautiful Girl

Every once in a while, look back to the beginning and remember what it was that made you fall in love…Denise-Balyoz-Child-portraits-Berkshire-Surrey

And little Miss L makes three…

Though she is only tiny, Little Miss L came into the studio with buckets of personality. She knew what she wanted and when she wanted it…and she wasn’t afraid to put her little foot down to get it! As a result, she kept us on our toes and laughing.
